I don\u2019t normally give critters names. Although, when I was a kid, we did named a Box Turtle who wondered into our yard, Moishe Pipik. The name Moishe Pipik was something we named lots of things, its Yiddish translation is Morris Belly Button. Sometimes we would also blame something on him, \u201cIt must have been Moishe Pipik who did it.\u201d I never really gave it much thought, it was just a name that we used ~ ah, family traditions.<\/p>\n

Well, I\u2019ve decided to name our Great Blue Heron ~ Steve. Instead of screaming, \u201cThe Heron\u2019s Back!\u201d I will now scream, \u201cSteve is Back!\u201d It feels better. My goal this year is to capture a picture of Steve in midflight. If I\u2019m lucky, I will get a lot of practice, as he has been visiting our pond daily since last week. I hope he brings his wife and kids like he has done in previous years.<\/p>\n
