Welcome Home Steve!

I don’t normally give critters names. Although, when I was a kid, we did named a Box Turtle who wondered into our yard, Moishe Pipik. The name Moishe Pipik was something we named lots of things, its Yiddish translation is Morris Belly Button. Sometimes we would also blame something on him, “It must have been Moishe Pipik who did it.” I never really gave it much thought, it was just a name that we used ~ ah, family traditions.

Well, I’ve decided to name our Great Blue Heron ~ Steve. Instead of screaming, “The Heron’s Back!” I will now scream, “Steve is Back!” It feels better. My goal this year is to capture a picture of Steve in midflight. If I’m lucky, I will get a lot of practice, as he has been visiting our pond daily since last week. I hope he brings his wife and kids like he has done in previous years.
