Ithaca Sound Maze

During the month of October while harvest is in full swing and activities abound, Ithaca has its very own sound maze. It is similar to your standard corn maze with loads of paths, some dead ends, but with a definite Ithacan flare.  The Ithaca Sound Maze features interactive ‘instruments’ and sound installations created from found and recycled materials, which are hidden throughout the maze. They are huge and built for more than one player.

Last weekend, Mathew and I went with some friends.  At one point, the boys ran ahead and just when we thought they were gone forever, music floated up from a nearby corner. Found! Luck for us, they always went left at each intersection, which also helped. At one point, I heard the tune from “Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind.” It was a magical day. If you are ever in Ithaca during the month of October, you must visit the Ithaca Sound Maze; it’s not to be missed.
